Incentives

Australian Government Incentives for Film and Television

Three types of Federal Tax Offsets incentives exist in Australia for film and television:

1. Producers Offset 40% rebate on Australian spend for Australian Films or 20% for Television

2. Location Offset 15% rebate on Australian spend for offshore productions

3. PDV Offset 15% rebate on Australian Post Digital and Visual effects services

Omnilab Media Services:

Omnilab has expertise in accessing, managing and advising on all aspects of the Offsets including the management and implementation of budgets, taxation and production matters. Omnilab can arrange to cash flow Offsets. Omnilab regularly enters co-production relationships that make use of the Offsets. Omnilab has access to world class producers, directors, writers and crews. Omnilab can provide film funding on certain projects
LOCATION OFFSET 15%
The total Australian spend must be at least 70% of the total budget Rebate now 15% on (up from 12.5%) on Qualifying Australian Production Expenditure (QAPE) by offshore productions that spend more than A$15 million inAustralia (including shooting in Australia) Due to certain costs being excluded, we estimate that the rebate would cover about 13% of the costs of an average feature film wholly produced in Australia The rebate is paid via the tax system POST DIGITAL EFFECTS OFFSET 15%

If the production is not eligible for the Location Offset, it may be eligible for the PDV Offset. The PDV Offset offers a 15% rebate on qualifying PDV expenditure of at least A$5 million, regardless of where the production is shot The spend can spread across many production houses. Omnilab can manage work across several PDV houses to ensure full access to the offset and best possible service provider The rebate is paid via the tax system
PRODUCERS OFFSET 40%

40% rebate for feature films and 20% rebate for television on all (QAPE). Due to certain costs being excluded, we estimate that the rebate would cover about 33% of the costs of an average feature film wholly produced in Australia and 17% of an eligible television program Both feature films and television that qualify for the Producers Offset may also apply for additional top up Government investment funding To qualify, the film must be Australian Content. This means that certain elements may be foreign (eg script, the director, location, etc) but the film must be an Australian film as determined by the Authority (the FFC/ASA) The rebate is paid via the tax system Official co-productions automatically qualify
