OMNILAB MEDIA WINS MOVIE NETWORK CHANNELS OUTSOURCING
Movie Network Channels partners with Omnilab Media in long-term deal
new HD facilities built for both organisations.
SYDNEY 19 May 2008 In a groundbreaking deal Omnilab Media, Australia/NZs largest, privately owned, vertically integrated content development and media service business, today announced details of the long-term outsourcing deal it has secured with Movie Network Channels for the playout, facilities and post production services of its channels.
Movie Network Channels (owned by Village Roadshow, Warner Bros., MGM and DisneyABC) is one of Australias premium subscription television organisations broadcasting its current channels Movie One, Movie Two, Movie Extra and Movie Greats on the Foxtel, Austar, Optus, SelecTV and Transact platforms.
Omnilab Media managing director Christopher Mapp said, I am delighted to announce that Omnilab Media will continue to be Movie Network Channels long-term outsourcing partner. This partnership not only demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the Australian media market but also sets a new benchmark for outsourcing in our region.
As part of the deal Omnilab is building a new facility at Movie Network Channels offices in St. Leonards which includes the installation of a 23-seat Final Cut Pro solution and providing a dedicated onsite team responsible for audio, graphics, editing and technical support.
In addition Omnilab is also extending the broadcast facilities they have at their Yurong Street offices, building a multi-channel HD operations centre which will incorporate Omnilabs continued development of broadcast and delivery within new media platforms such as mobile TV, internet TV and IPTV.
Commenting on the deal, Tony Forrest, CEO of The Movie Network Channels said, I am very pleased that we have signed a long-term agreement with Omnilab Media to manage our playout and post production facilities from August 1. This new deal is a significantly different style of service provision with a new post, design and audio facility being installed at our premises with a complete changeover to Final Cut Pro technology, desktop and suites. Through this service agreement we will enhance our capacity to deliver new services, as well as develop our capabilities in the high definition space and new media platforms. Omnilab Media are committed to our partnership on this and we look forward to making a lot of noise in these areas.
Central to facilitating the deal is Andrew Hogg, general manager of Omnilab Medias broadcast business unit, The Playroom. Hogg added, We have consistently invested in the latest technology to offer our clients new and innovative broadcasting solutions, which includes downloads to the next generation of handheld media devices and internet portals, and it doesnt stop there. When complete, our Yurong Street multi-channel HD broadcast operations centre will control channel ingest, asset management, storage, monitoring, conversion and distribution all under one roof. This is something that has been promised by many and delivered by few in the Australian market.
Christopher Mapp concluded, In the face of international competition Omnilab Media successfully won this landmark deal with Movie Network Channels because both companies identified with a common vision and commitment to develop a new strategic and collaborative local partnership for the future. We look forward to delivering on this commitment and developing our partnership for many years to come.
The new Movie Network Channels facility is scheduled for completion in August 2008 and Omnilabs Yurong Street multi-channel HD broadcast operations centre in the last quarter of the year.
