OMNILAB MEDIA GROUP CO-FINANCE THE BANK JOB MOVIE
SYDNEY, 9 FEBRUARY 2007
THE BANK JOB - New Roger Donaldson thriller Inspired by famous unsolved 1971 robbery, starring Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows.
The Omnilab Media Group, Australia's largest, privately owned, vertically integrated content development and media service business, today announced that it is co-financing THE BANK JOB, a sexy thriller directed by Roger Donaldson (THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN, THIRTEEN DAYS) along with Relativity Media. Omnilab Media Group Managing Director Christopher Mapp is one of the executive producers together with the Groups executive director Matthew Street and Manager of Legal Counsel and Business Affairs, Entertainment, David Whealy. The rest of the Executive Producer team consist of George McIndoe, Ryan Kavanaugh, David Alper, Gary Hamilton, Alex Gartner and Alan Glazer.
Mapp said, "The Omnilab Media Group is a significant and major investor in the Australian Film Industry. Our strategy and commitment is to continue to invest in Australian and international films and television programmes building a major slate of projects and wherever possible bring some of the key creative services involved back to Australia. The Bank Job represents one such project, concluded by the Omnilab Media Group and where, as a result, some production and post-production will be now done in Australia. (Recent films Omnilab Media Group companies have provided production services for include Charlotte's Web, Happily N'ever After and the huge local box office success, Kenny). In addition the Omnilab Media Group have acquired the UK and Australia/New Zealand distribution rights for The Bank Job and have funded substantial print and advertising costs for North America in a deal negotiated with Lionsgate".
Lionsgate the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to The Bank Job which has been written by the team of Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (FLUSHED AWAY, STILL CRAZY) and produced by Mosaic Media Groups Charles Roven and Steve Chasman. THE BANK JOB stars Jason Statham (CRANK, THE ITALIAN JOB) and Saffron Burrows (KLIMT, ENIGMA). Arclight is the international sales agent for the film.
Lionsgate's President of Theatrical Films Tom Ortenberg said, "THE BANK JOB is an incredible story inspired by a daring robbery that took place in London in 1971. The crime was never solved, and THE BANK JOB poses a startling reason for that, one that has its origins in very high places. A film like this comes along all too rarely, and were thrilled to give it a home at Lionsgate".
Lionsgate's President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions Peter Block added, "Roger Donaldson is a master of both human drama and cinematic suspense, and is the perfect filmmaker to weave together THE BANK JOB's threads of intrigue, scandal and danger. And we are delighted to be working again with the very talented Jason Statham, who was so terrific in CRANK".
Said Roven, "Lionsgate is the ideal home for THE BANK JOB. Tom, Peter and the entire Lionsgate team have responded so enthusiastically to this project, and with a complete grasp of all the possibilities represented by this particular story and this particular creative team. We're very excited to be working with Lionsgate, with the financial support of Relativity and the Omnilab Media Group - THE BANK JOB is in excellent hands".
Said Chasman, "Based on what weve seen from our first few weeks of production, THE BANK JOB is going to be a knockout thriller woven around themes of murder, sex and corruption. Roger and his cast are firing on all cylinders, and we are looking forward to working with Arclight to present some early footage to the international distribution community at the upcoming Berlinale".
Christopher Mapp concluded, "The Bank Job is a great example of the Omnilab Media Groups commitment to the future of film and television in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region. We are delighted to be working with high calibre companies such as Lionsgate, Relativity Media, Arclight Films and the Mosaic Media Group on such an excellent script with such a highly talented creative team, it is our recipe for a successful movie. There are many other projects in the pipeline and I expect to make further announcements in the near future".
THE BANK JOB is currently in production in the UK, with principal photography due to end in March.

SYNOPSIS
In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in Londons Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth millions and millions of pounds. None of it was recovered. Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then disappeared - the result of a UK government D Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden in those boxes. The story involves murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the British Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved.
