Tomorrow When the War Began - announce first cast member
Ambience Entertainment announced today that the Director of TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN, Stuart Beattie has found his Ellie Linton, the pivotal character in John Marsdens best-selling series of books which have sold nearly 2 million copies in Australia and New Zealand.
Ellie will be played by nineteen year-old Australian actress Caitlin Stasey.
There was an exhaustive audition process and I have been privileged to see some very talented young actors. Caitlin captured the perfect balance of intelligence, vulnerability and strength that is essential to this character. said Stuart Beattie.
Nineteen year-old Caitlin Staseys credits include the lead role of Rachel Kinski on Neighbours, Frankie in The Sleepover Club and more recently Snow White in the UKs Theatre Royal production of the classic fairytale. On landing the highly sought-after role of Ellie, Caitlin said I was ecstatic!. I have a lot of respect for Ellies character and feel privileged to be playing such an inspirational young female role
Beattie wrote the screenplay and will make his directorial debut on TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN. Beatties screenwriting credits include Australia, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral. Beattie said: I was instantly attracted to this project because I was looking to make a character- based but commercial action movie set in Australia that could compete on the international stage. TOMORROW has all the action, but also has the heart. Ellie and her friends are all wonderful, complex, engaging characters who make the ride worth so much more than the price of admission.
Paramount Pictures will handle distribution and marketing of the film in Australia and New Zealand. Principal investor Omnilab Media, through its production arm, Ambience Entertainment, will take the first novel in the series, TOMORROW: WHEN THE WAR BEGAN from page to screen.
With production investment from Screen Australia and assistance from the NSW Dept of State and Regional Development, the film will be produced entirely in Australia with production on the classic teen novel scheduled to commence principal photography in the Hunter Valley at the end of September.
